"Heal my heart and make it clean
Open up my eyes to the things unseen
Show me how to love like You have loved me
Break my heart for what breaks Yours
Everything I am for Your Kingdom's cause
As I walk from earth into eternity" - From the song "Hosanna"
This is part of what I pray everyday, and after the past few days I have to say that my heart is breaking:
While the majority of my Christian friends on BOTH sides of this Chick-Fil-a debate (and, yes, there are Christians on both sides of the debate) have been respectful to and mindful of others who don't agree with them when speaking their minds on the subject, my heart is breaking because I also have other Christian friends who seem to have forgotten both Matthew 7:12 & Matthew 22:36-40 when speaking their minds on the subject. If you're not familiar with these passages, then here they are:
"So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." - Matthew 7:12 (New International Version)
and
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” - Matthew 22:36-40 (New International Version)
Sadly, in a few cases I have seen such hate filled bile spewed out, not just from one side but both, from Christians at fellow Christians. I'm not telling you what you should or shouldn't believe on this subject. I'm not even saying that as Christians we will never disagree about anything. What I am saying is that whatever your thoughts are on this matter, your words to others and about others regarding what you believe should come from a place of love and respect for the other person. Why? Because that is what we are called to do, and if we can't do that with other Christians when we disagree, then how can we possibly expect to do that to our neighbors out in the world?

Brilliant Grace! I am not a Christian, but I believe in the truth of these statements. If everyone on both sides conducted themselves from the heart, there would be no ugliness. <3 to you.
Thank you so much for stopping by. I was terrified writing this today, because I've seen how ugly it's gotten out there. I didn't even say where I stood on this issue as I knew, once I did, whichever side I stated I was for or against, then some from the opposing view would just stop reading, and not hear what I was truly trying to say. Thanks, again for your thoughts.
Grace, I cannot thank you enough for writing this. After days of my heart aching and my temper flaring (being called every name in the book), I felt a sense of peace and calm. You did that. Thank you.
